In 2017, Red Hat Chairman Paul Cormier and Boston University (BU) professor Orran Krieger helped spearhead a collaborative partnership between the two institutions that would come to include expanding Red Hat's participation in the MOC Alliance, the establishment of the Red Hat Collaboratory at BU for research incubation, and the creation of a Red Hat OpenShift Data Science environment at BU for open source education resources.
